A nutritious recipe, consisting of a dessert of Polish origin prepared with flour, butter, sugar, egg, salt, starch, baking powder, milk,
Ingredients
Serves 24
Shortcrust Pastry Base
250 g (8.8 oz) all-purpose flour
150 g (5.3 oz) butter
50 g (1.8 oz) sugar
1 egg
A pinch of salt
Sweet Cake Batter
200 g (7.1 oz) softened butter
180 g (6.3 oz) sugar
3 eggs
100 g (3.5 oz) starch
100 g (3.5 oz) all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
A little milk, as needed
Glaze
100 g (3.5 oz) powdered sugar (icing sugar)
1–2 tablespoons water
Method
For the shortcrust pastry base, quickly knead all the ingredients together to form a homogeneous dough.
Add cold water to taste.
Form a ball, wrap it in aluminum foil and keep it in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 180 °C (fan).
For the sweet shortcrust pastry, mix the starch with the flour and baking powder.
Beat the butter with the sugar, gradually incorporating the eggs.
Also incorporate the sifted flour.
Add enough milk to obtain an easy-to-roll dough.
Line a 20×30 cm baking pan or a plate with baking paper.
Roll out the shortcrust pastry on a floured work surface and transfer it to the pan, making it slightly above the edge.
Before rolling out the shortcrust pastry, you can decide to set aside a third and use it to create a decorative border, such as a roll, beads or braid.
Cover the base with the sweet pastry and bake in the oven for about 25 minutes, or until the cake is golden brown.
Gently remove it from the pan and let it cool.
To make the icing, mix the powdered sugar with the water until smooth.
Brush it on the cake forming a thin layer, or create a decorative pattern to your taste.
When the frosting has dried, cut the cake into equal parts (e.g. 4 long and 6 wide).
Apply the icing evenly or forming patterns on the cake.
You can also cover it with chocolate, but you have to take into account the high potassium content.
